Message from the Rector

August is designated as “A Month of Prayer.” It is similar to February being designated as Black History Month. I believe that every day should be devoted to prayer and understanding Black History. It’s wonderful that so many of you use the Forward Day by Day meditation booklet to guide your daily prayer. The booklets are at the back of the church. If you have a computer or tablet and use the Internet, you can view The Daily Office web site run by an Episcopal Deacon. On the web site you can type in your email address to receive for free each day the liturgy and scripture readings for Morning and Evening Prayer. On Wednesday September 2 at 7pm we will have a worship service of healing with Holy Eucharist. At this service “healing” refers to all aspects of health, wholeness and well-being. I encourage you to come and experience this worship service. You do not have to have a broken leg or recent surgery in order to come. Everyone is invited. If you work on Sunday, this is a great way to come to church to receive Holy Communion.

Now turning to Black History, a new publication was recently released by The University of Kentucky press. It is titled Kentucky African American Encyclopedia: Black Life and Culture in the Commonwealth. Several people who were members of St. Andrew’s in the past are mentioned in this book

As Christians our lives are dedicated to prayer and deepening our relationship with God and one another. These are resources that can help us to do both.
